6 Sinus Infection Home Remedies That Work

What types of home remedies can you use for sinus infection?

Here are some natural treatments to get you started.

1. Nasal irrigation

The famous neti pot is the tool to use for nasal irrigation. It looks somewhat like Aladdin’s magic lamp and you add a saline solution to it. Press one side of your nose closed and then bring the part of the neti pot which could be used to pour liquids up to you nose. Tilt your head and pour in the water slowly, then release your finger pressing the other side of your nose. The water will be irrigating your nose. Follow the instructions that come with the neti pot.

2. Steam inhalations

These are easy to do. Fill a big soup pot with water. Bring it to a near boil, then set it on a hot pad on the dining room table. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the water. Sit down in front of the soup pot and drape a large beach towel over your head. Use the beach towel to form a tent over the pot (with you inside the tent). Breathe in the aroma along with the steam. Continue until you no longer can stand the heat, then take a break, and then go back and do it again.

3. Homeopathy

According to the book Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide by Burton Goldberg, a nasal spray made with eight different homeopathic remedies and administered four times a day for four months was just as effective as a medical treatment for sinus infection. The study had 172 patients in it – half received the treatment while the other half received a placebo.

In another study of this same homeopathic preparation called Euphorbium compositum, 3510 patients were surveyed on the effectiveness of the product. Three fourths of the people surveyed gave the product high ratings. Symptom improvement included fewer headaches, decreased sinus pressure, and less breathing difficulties.

4. Acupuncture and acupressure

Anywhere from one to eight acupuncture treatments could be enough to make a significant difference in your sinus infection. If you don’t have an acupuncturist in your neighborhood, acupressure might be the alternative. Some massage therapists are trained in acupressure and can instruct you on the exact points to use for your specific case.
