Back Pain On Lower Left Side Has Many Causes

Other Causes of Back Pain On The Lower Left Side

Here’s a list of some of the other reasons – the more common ones – why you might have back pain on your lower left side:

1. Muscle Strain / Sprain

Did you catch yourself while slipping or move in a way that you’re not used to moving? Or perhaps you were in a car or bike accident and hurt your muscles during that incident. If so, it’s possible you suffered from a muscle strain / sprain and that’s the cause of your back pain on the lower left side.

2. Tight Muscles (Piriformis or Buttock)

Tight Piriformis muscles are not diagnosed as often as they should be. The back pain can be quite sharp in the lower left side. Similarly, tight buttock muscles can be a problem as well. When some muscles are too tight, others will be more lax than they should be. More and more often these days, body workers are helping people with back pain to balance their muscles.

3. Other Injuries to the Back Muscles, Joints or Ligaments

If you practiced gymnastics as a young child, you may have previous injuries to your back muscles, joints or ligaments that are the source of your back pain on the lower left side. Two other common conditions include facet syndrome that affects the joints and spondylolysis, which can cause similar back pain.

4. Sciatica

Sciatica pain usually starts in the lower back and then radiates down into the buttocks and down the back of the leg. It can be quite painful.

5. Arthritis

Arthritis is a common cause of back pain on the lower left side. However, arthritis pain is the type of pain that is easily alleviated with proper nutrition.
