Best Hangover Cures To Give You Relief

You have probably heard various legends about the best hangover cures.

Some home remedies are actually effective. Many remedies work by rehydrating the body and relieving symptoms such as red eyes, digestive upsets, headache, and fatigue.

Avoid a Hangover is the Best Cure

Obviously the easiest way to avoid a hangover is to drink less alcohol. Other ways to avoid a hangover is to eat prior to and while drinking. Eat a well balanced meal. Sip drinks slowly. Consume less potent beverages. For example, instead of a glass of wine, have a wine spritzer. All of these measures slow the absorption of alcohol in your system.

Don’t Just Drink Alcohol

Be sure that you hydrate well before consuming alcohol and while drinking. Many of the symptoms of a hangover are due to dehydration. Alcohol dries the body out. As a result, fatigue and headaches are common. Even bloodshot eyes can be due partly to dehydration.

Consider alternating an alcoholic beverage with a non alcoholic one. All of the extra non alcoholic fluids will make you feel full, so you may consume less alcohol too.

Avoid Salty Snacks

Bar nuts, pizza, chips: all classic snacks that taste better with a beer. Unfortunately, all of those foods are salty. If you consume alot of these, you will tend to drink more alcohol. In addition, salt is very dehydrating. You will feel better if you snack on high protein foods – whole grain snacks; or fruits and veggies.

It’s Too Late – I Already Drank Too Much

I come from a long line of Irish people. Not to pick on the Irish, but many of my relatives adhered to the traditional view of Irishmen as hard working, hard partying, heavy drinkers. Here are some of their favorite remedies.

Drink a cup of coffee when you don’t get enough shut eye and you are dragging. Caffeine gives you an energy jolt and can help with the headaches which often occur after a night of over indulgence.

This sounds repulsive to me, but some of my relatives swore by drinking a beer in the morning. Not just any beer, but a beer into which a raw beaten egg has been added. It was to be swallowed in just a couple of gulps. I suppose that the protein in the egg could have been beneficial, however I would be concerned that in addition to a hangover, a person would get salmonella as an added bonus. That said, I would not recommend the raw egg cure.
