Foods For Constipation Relief And Prevention

If you are suffering from constipation, it is a sign that your body needs two things: more fiber and more fluids.

Your digestive tract is responsible for breaking down and assimilating nutrients, as well as eliminating waste products. When this process is not functioning correctly, our bodies begin to feel toxic, bloated and generally backed up. Like when the garbage men are on strike. Yucky all around.

You can help your body maintain proper digestion by feeding it lots of fiber and drinking enough healthy fluids, while cutting out the not-so-healthy junk food stuff that makes us feel slow and kinda sick. Everyone should have a little comfort food now and then, but it’s important to follow a few simple daily eating and drinking guidelines, so you can really enjoy food and feel good too.

Healing Waters

It is important to increase water consumption when adding fiber to your diet. To relieve constipation quickly, drink an 8oz glass of water once an hour until symptoms improve. Don’t do this one too often as it has powerful detoxifying effects, and your body can only handle so much release at a time.

For chronic constipation, drinking 1/2 cup Aloe Vera juice in the morning and before bed can promote a cleansing and softening effect. To stimulate proper digestion, I advise all of my clients to make a little ginger tea after dinner by steeping 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger in a cup of hot water. Add a little honey or lemon if you like and sip slowly.

Supporting your digestive health by drinking barley water every day offers much needed fluids and nourishment to your system. It has been used for centuries to flush toxins from the body and its anti-inflammatory effect on the entire digestive tract can be very soothing

* Wash 2 tablespoons pearled barley and add to 1/2 Liter of water in a small saucepan
* Boil the mixture for 10 minutes.
* Strain and discard water, and then add the leftover barley to a fresh pint of water.
* Boil again for 10 minutes.
* Strain the barley and serve the water warm or cold; add a little lemon or honey if you like.

Drinking water is healing for your entire body, not just your colon and is a good thing, but be aware that if you are aggressively flushing toxins, you may experience some nausea, so start increasing slowly and make drinking healthy fluids part of your daily routine.
