Foods To Eat And Avoid In An Interstitial Cystitis Diet

* Carbonated beverages – for example sodas, many sport drinks and supplements; you should also avoid all alcohol.

* Caffeine – this includes coffee, caffeine-containing teas such as green tea, and even chocolate, which contains quite a lot of caffeine.

* Citrus products – this includes all citrus fruits like lemons and grapes.

* Vitamin C – you should also try to limit all foods that have very rich vitamin C content, such as chilli and bell peppers, guavas, thyme, broccoli, cauliflower and papayas.


According to a Mary Bowe article in 2005, you should also refrain from eating smoked meat and fish, and avoid for instance any spiced and cured meets like pepperoni or sausages, as they are not good foods for interstitial cystitis. Many people have also reported problems from tomatoes, pickles and dried fruit. This is probably down to their acidity and the preservatives found in them.

The IC-diet website also warns that you shouldn’t include certain processed cheeses and various soy products, such as soy milk, into your interstitial cystitis diet. The majority of nuts are also often causing the symptoms of the condition to worsen.
