How To Increase Breast Milk Production Naturally

If you’re a mom who just recently gave birth, you know that the #1 priority you have is to feed your baby.

Nursing is the absolute best way to do it, so any knowledge you have about how to increase breast milk production will go a long way to helping your baby stay nourished. Once you know what to do to increase breast milk production, you can rest assured that you don’t have to worry about this part of being a mom!

There are two herbs that can increase breast milk production. You can take both herbs at the same time or take them individually. Here are the details about them:

Blessed Thistle Herb

Blessed thistle herb is NOT the same thing as milk thistle. Blessed thistle is the same thing as Holy Thistle though. The Latin name for blessed thistle is Cnicus benedictus, although you can also use Centauria benedicta or Carbenia benedicta as well. The Latin name is the official way to ensure you have the correct herb. On the other hand, the common name, such as Holy Thistle, could potentially be linked with other herbs. The common name of an herb is like its nickname.

It’s the whole herb blessed thistle that acts as a galactogogue, which is something that causes the production of breast milk.

Interestingly, new moms should not do any herbal cleansing during the time they are nursing, but blessed thistle gently cleanses the blood and is totally safe. The herb also helps increase the efficiency of liver cells and stimulates circulation as well. According to Dr. John R. Christopher, N.D., blessed thistle supports the functions of the brain, stomach and heart and improves memory, something every new mom wants!

Here’s a recipe you can make that contains the blessed thistle herb (and also raspberry leaves which aid in normalizing the reproductive hormones):

* 1/4 cup Blessed Thistle herb powder
* 1/4 cup Raspberry leaves
* 1/4 cup Marshmallow root

Use one teaspoon per cup water and let it soak overnight or for several hours. The soaking brings out more of the water-soluble medicinal constituents, pulling them into the beverage. Drink up to three cups daily.

Fenugreek Herb

Fenugreek has a bad rep by many people in its ability to increase milk production. Scientists cite the possible production of diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn and/or gas as side effects of using the herb for milk production. Yet what these internet reports don’t usually tell you is that this only occurs at levels 12 times what women take to stimulate milk production.

Also, these are common side effects noted for just about every prescription medication on the market. It appears that scientists seem to expect herbs to be perfect on all levels; yet their own drugs have been shown to be woefully imperfect.
