How To Treat Bronchitis Naturally – Try These Home Remedies

The average person breathes in about 11,000 liters of air every day. That’s a lot of hot air to be blowing around, but if you suffer from acute or chronic bronchitis, every breath you take can be a source of stress that only makes your breathing more difficult.

Think about it, our most necessary resource is oxygen. You can only live a matter of minutes without it and it is so vital that our wellbeing is deeply linked to the quality of the breath.

I have worked with many clients over the years who suffer from bronchitis, and there are two main remedies I share with them for dealing with the symptoms – breathing exercises, and essential oils.

Breathing Easy

It may seem unfair to prescribe a breathing exercise to someone who has difficulty breathing, but if you want to perform better you need to at least practice a little. Training yourself to take deep, conscious breaths is a great way to strengthen and tone the lungs and diaphragm.

* Sit comfortably upright with your feet flat on the floor, or lying comfortably with your knees bent and feet flat.

* Lay your hand on your belly just where your ribs meet your stomach area.

* Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of four, feel your hand rise up as you expand your lungs and abdomen.

* Exhale through pursed lips for a count of eight, intend to push all of the excess air from your lungs.

* Repeat for one to five minutes, as you are able. Stop if you feel lightheaded or dizzy.

* Notice the relaxing effect on your lungs and body.

Feel free to use this breath anytime you feel anxious or need a sense of peace and balance. If you practice this exercise when you are not feeling short of breath or stressed, it will be easier to call upon it when you really need it to work for you.

Essential Healing

When it comes to treating respiratory ailments, my clients have found remarkable results with using essential oils. They have concentrated, natural healing properties that oxygenate lung tissue, clear toxins from cells and reduce swelling in bronchial tubes.

Essential oils can be used to treat bronchitis in a number of ways, and you will need to determine what is best for your needs. Choosing the right blend of oils and the application method that will be most effective for you may take some practice, but your quality of breath will be much improved with just a little effort.

Choose two or three therapeutic grade essential oils from the list and use two to three drops of each as described in one of the application methods below. Always dilute essential oils before using them on skin, and keep away from sensitive areas like eyes and mouth – do not take internally.
