Juice Diets – Why You Should Be Careful Going On One

Not all juice diets are good for you.

It’s the selection of the fruits and vegetables for the drinks as well as how the juice was created that determines if your juices will nourish you, turn back the aging process, and even reverse your illnesses – or create new illnesses.


Why Some Juice Diets Can Harm You

Yes, you did read that last phrase correctly – some juices can cause health issues. Specifically, the wrong type of juice can create a pre-diabetes condition or even diabetes. But how can something so good as fruits and vegetables be so bad?

It’s the content of carbohydrates in the fruits and vegetables that can make or break you. I found this out the hard way many years ago. After an illness that left me with a great deal of pain for a few months, I knew I would have to somehow continue getting in enough nutrients and antioxidants on a daily basis for healing to occur. I began purchasing juices in glass jars from the health food store that added in extra nutrients.

I felt more energized at the time and my weight returned to normal over the next few months. But what I didn’t see at the time was that following the illness and weight normalcy was a period of weight gain. In fact, I didn’t realize it was occurring until I looked back on photos taken during that time period. I was starting to get bigger around the middle and all over. Even my face looked fatter.

The juices I was drinking were fruit juices, which had been raising my blood sugar level every time I drank them. Sipping on them all day long was only doing one thing – keeping my blood sugar levels elevated. Over time, this led to the blood sugar level rising rapidly after the first sip of fruit juice – and insulin being produced in high levels to attempt to remedy the situation. During the next 18 hours, my biochemical pathways were converted to fat storage, and no fat-burning was occurring.

It took a long time for me to switch back the biochemical pathways to burning fat. At that time I luckily found experts in the hCG diet who explained that this diet was one of the few that actually could force the body to start burning stored fat. This type of diet is very restrictive, however, and it was finally juicing with vegetable juices for a period of 12 days that reset my metabolism. All those carotenoids and plant phytochemicals can fill in the gaps of our metabolism and result in healing.
