Learn About Mouth Warts – Causes And Natural Remedies

Oral warts appear as raised bumps on the lips and within the mouth. Mouth warts can be quite hard when touched and may appear whiter or redder than the surrounding tissue.

They usually come as single lesions and don’t often cause considerable pain, but can make swallowing and eating uncomfortable or difficult. If you don’t treat mouth warts, it is possible that they spread to other parts of the body. They are increasingly also linked to oral cancer.

Causes of mouth warts

All mouth warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a group of viruses with almost 100 different strains. HPV is most often spread through sexual activity and the strain of virus causing mouth warts is often spread through oral sex. You can also get it by kissing or sharing oral hygiene products, like toothbrushes or spoons, with people who are infected with the virus.

This virus is more likely to spread if you have a weak immune system, either because of nutrient deficiencies or you suffer from any illness, especially immunosuppressive illnesses such as HIV. There is currently no cure for the virus but it can be treated and remedied with various natural methods.

Remedies for mouth warts

There are many natural remedies that you could try if you want to get rid of mouth warts. The most common medical treatments require sometimes even surgery to remove warts and can thus be very invasive. These are natural remedies that you can try at home and get positive results.

Garlic

The great food item that is so often effective in healing various conditions can also be helpful in getting rid of mouth warts. Garlic is very effective because it is antifungal and antibacterial and it will reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

A 2010 Natural News article recommends that you cover the wart with crushed garlic or garlic oil extract. If the warts are outside of the mouth, you can tape garlic on top of the affected area overnight and it will eventually remove the wart. If you have warts inside the mouth, you should try to hold garlic on top of it daily, and rub oil on the area. You should also add garlic to your diet so that you will get a boost to your immune system.

Green tea

Another great and soothing remedy for mouth warts is to drink a lot of green tea. The Natural News article suggests that green tea will provide the body with a lot of antioxidants that can effectively cure the warts. It is also good in flushing any bacteria away from the mouth.

A Livestrong article from 2011 states that green tea has a lot of compounds called polyphenols that are very effective in removing bacteria and soothing the wart.

Banana peels

You can also remedy mouth warts naturally by using banana peels. The People’s Pharmacy reported in 2005 of many cases where people using banana peel on mouth warts saw it cured within a few weeks.

You should take a banana peel and rub the inside of it on top of the warts. Rub it for several seconds to make sure it gets deep inside the wart tissue. Leave the skin alone, or tape a piece of the peel on top of the warts overnight. You should repeat this process twice or three times a day to receive the best results.
