Natural Health Deals With The Body Holistically

The entire philosophy of natural health and healing contains some core principles. One of them entails dealing with the body as a whole, in a holistic manner, and this is discussed in the following article I first wrote and published on another website in 2008.

Natural Health Principle No. 5 – Definition of Holistic Health – dealing with the body as a whole

One definition of holistic health is “pertaining to the whole body; treatment of disease by taking into consideration every part of the body to bring the internal environment into balance”.

All the parts of our bodies are inter-related. When you have a headache, the problem often does NOT lie with your head or your brain.

When one grows a tumor in a certain part of the body, it is not just that specific part which has gone haywire – there are weaknesses in other parts of the body which would have contributed to that growth. These could include an impaired liver, a constipated colon, weak kidneys, poor oxygenation of cells, lack of exercise, Vitamin D deficiency, etc.

For healing to take place, all of these factors must be addressed in some way which is coherent with the definition of holistic health.

It is common that, when one organ or system in the body is not functioning properly, other organs and systems are also affected. The body’s systems are highly, highly, highly interlinked!

This particular natural health principle is important as it tells us utilize holistic healing and health, because we can never be sure WHY a particular part of the body is weak – it is often caused by weaknesses in OTHER parts of the part. Therefore, we need to try to improve everything!

If humans are honest, we would admit, no matter how strong one’s credentials are, that we really know very little about how the whole human body works in totality and how different parts and functions are linked.

Every now and then, we make new discoveries, which sometimes contradict what we previously thought we knew.

The reality is, different, and seemingly separate, parts and functions of the human body are intrinsically linked in complicated ways, most of which is beyond our current understanding.

This makes following the definition of holistic health all the more important.
