Natural Remedies For Acid Reflux Anyone Can Use At Home

If you’re like almost half of Americans, you suffer from heartburn at least once a month. For around ten percent it’s once a day.

When that tight, burning feeling starts happening in your chest, you naturally reach for an over-the-counter antacid remedy, and hope for instant relief. Most of the time these medications work for a while, but you can definitely over-ride their acid beating power and cause even more digestive disruption than before.

There are as many ways to cause the indigestion that leads to acid reflux as there are heartburn medications. The wide variety of pills, liquids and chews that you can take before, during and after a meal almost make it seem normal to have indigestion, and we just work the remedies into our lifestyles, like adding on the antacid course between the appetizer and salad.

It may be a relief to think that you can continue to feast like a king every night of the week, but what happens when these remedies stop working so well, and the heartburn returns? What happens when they have “shut off” your stomach’s ability to process food, and your body starts having more complicated digestive issues?

While the companies that make antacid medications want you to think that acid is the enemy, your stomach actually needs that acid to process food. The symptoms of heartburn such as a burning sensation in the chest, bloating, nausea and a sour taste in the throat are often caused by our eating habits, rather than too much acid. These symptoms should not be masked by commercial medicines, but rather prevented by common sense.

There are many things that you can do to prevent heartburn without going to the drugstore. The real reason you are suffering from acid reflux is that your body is having trouble digesting your food. Common factors that contribute to indigestion are eating too much, eating too fast, eating the wrong foods, and eating too late.

I know how attached we get to our eating habits. Many clients in my office certainly don’t want to have indigestion, but don’t want to change what, how, or when they eat. There is only so much that I can do as an energy healer to help your digestion, but the bulk of the work lies at home, and I can’t live in your pantry and give you a guilt trip every day about junk food. You need to do this yourself.

Don’t worry, I hear you getting nervous and starting to defend your habits – about how you get home late from work, how you don’t have time to shop and only eat out “once in a while” even though your trash can looks like the dumpster behind the food court at the mall. Just ask yourself how you feel after you binge on your favorite drive thru fare? Not lovin’ it, huh? Try some of these suggestions that have worked for my clients in the past.
