Primary Lower Back Pain Remedies To Use

There are dozens of lower back pain remedies. As a retired chiropractor, I like to use ergonomics as one of the primary ‘lower back pain remedies’ because it makes so much sense.

Since everyone has a different body shape, size and height, it becomes literally impossible for desk and chair manufacturers to make a one-size-fits-all desk or chair. Thus, it’s up to each one of us to make sure that we have the right size desk and chair and that it’s set up correctly as well.


How Is Ergonomics Considered One of the Lower Back Pain Remedies?

Ergonomics is the study of body positioning so that the body can operate more efficiently – and without pain.


Anything That Affects Your Posture Can Cause Body Aches and Pains

For example, when a woman wears high heels, the angle of the low back completely changes, and the buttocks end up protruding an additional 20%. This might be helpful for someone who didn’t have the right angle of the spine (low back curve) to begin with, but would be very detrimental to someone with a swayback who already has too much of an angle in their low back curve. The result would be low back pain.

However, once a practitioner discovers by using ergonomic principles that the young woman’s high heels are the cause of her lower back pain, the solution is right around the corner – change the high heels. She wouldn’t necessarily need any additional lower back pain remedies.

Using ergonomics principles, all possible positions the body is in that cause and don’t cause low back pain are examined. Other pairs of shoes besides high heels are important to examine because how you stand affects how your spine feels. Some pairs of shoes will send you on a search for lower back pain remedies! Others will allow you to walk for miles without any pain at all.


Consider the Ergonomics of The Chairs You Use

Most of the time, it’s the chair you sit in at work that contributes most to back pain, neck pain, and even arm, wrist and elbow pain. If the seat on the chair itself is too high or too low, it will affect your body position. If the back of the chair doesn’t extend backwards, it will affect your position and can contribute to back pain.

One study found that the compression forces on your spine are decreased significantly when you lean back in your chair. If a chair has arm rests, it’s better for your posture than one without them.
