Safe And Effective Home Remedy For Pregnancy Rash

Expecting a baby brings so many wonderful surprises to your life, but no one told you about the pregnancy rash that would take over half of your body.

The insane itching and tender bumps on your torso can add a whole new level of uncomfortable to this special time, but this is an unavoidable period of irritation and adjustment for your skin. However, there are many things you can do to soothe, nourish and heal your outer self as your baby grows inside you.

Pregnancy rash is really not an allergic reaction, as most rashes are, but rather is probably a result of hormonal changes and the rapid growth of the skin around the torso. Skin distention and the resultant stretch marks are also thought to be a likely cause, and women who are carrying large babies or multiples may be more likely to suffer from this condition.

The different types of common pregnancy rashes include conditions such as PUPPP, Puritic Folliculitis and Purigo, which can be very itchy and uncomfortable, but pose no serious threat to the baby. Others, such as Intrahepatic Cholstasis, or Pemphigoid Gestationis are certainly less common, but can be dangerous to the pregnancy. All are cause for some concern and discomfort, but can usually be remedied or will disappear after the pregnancy is over.

Of course, there are many causes for rashes other than pregnancy itself, including exposure to toxins, insect bites and other more serious conditions, so if you develop any type of itchy, bumpy, splotchy or otherwise suspicious irritation on the skin, be sure to consult with your health care professional before proclaiming a self-diagnosis.

Common treatments often include Corticosteroid creams and topical anti-histamines, which can inhibit an immune system that is already overwhelmed by a pregnancy. However, if you would like to choose an alternative to over-the-counter products, there is a simple home remedy that you can easily make yourself that is safe to use while pregnant.

Pregnancy Rash Cream

While it’s obvious that you need a little extra moisturizer to go around when you’re pregnant, taking good care of your skin can help you avoid irritations and rashes as the months go by. Regularly applying emollient oils or creams can also reduce the appearance of stretch marks, while making you more comfortable during this time of change.

* Coconut Oil – 4oz
* Cocoa Butter – 3oz
* Jojoba Oil – 2oz
* Beeswax – 1-3oz

Combine the oils and grated beeswax (sometimes you can find it in pellets) in a small saucepan. Warm the mixture slowly over low heat and carefully remove when all oils are combined. Test consistency by letting a spoonful harden in the freezer for a moment and add more beeswax to your liking. You can also whip this mixture with a hand blender to create a creamy texture. Store in an airtight jar. Be sure to use the best ingredients you can find and keep in a cool place. Rub over belly and lower back three times daily for best results.
