Seeking A Scabies Cure? Try These Herbal Remedies And Treatments

Scabies are skin lesions which are caused by mites. Fluid filled lesions are raised and intensely itchy. As the mites burrow under the skin, tiny tunnels may be visible.

Scabies are highly contagious. All clothing and linens must be washed in hot water. Topical treatments are needed to kill the mites and relieve the itching.

Outbreaks may occur anywhere but are common in close quarters. Localized epidemics sometimes occur in nursing homes, prisons, schools, or heath care facilities.

Untreated scabies may develop into Norwegian scabies. The skin of a person with Norwegian Scabies becomes very thick, scaly, and encrusted due to the inflammatory response to millions of mites living under the skin. Sometimes, Norwegian scabies does not itch, perhaps because of damage to the tissues.

After infestation with scabies, a person’s immune response may be impaired. An altered allergic response may develop. The person becomes more sensitive and develops non scabies rashes and eczema for a prolonged period after the scabies are destroyed.

Conventional Treatment of Scabies

Conventional health practitioners prescribe topical lotions or creams which are applied to the body and left on overnight. Unfortunately, the mites which cause scabies are becoming resistant to the topical medicines which are used to eradicate the mites. Multiple treatments are often needed. In addition, pharmaceutical treatments have serious side effects. Some may cause seizures or death.

Other medications may be prescribed to reduce itching. Many of these medications cause drowsiness and a dry mouth. They may interact with other medications which a person may be taking.

Herbs Used to Kill the Mites

In order to kill the mites, it is best to use essential oils as they are the most concentrated of the plant medicines. One of the most effective oils is anise. It may be combined with a base oil, such as olive oil, and applied from the neck down. Scabies lodge in warm areas, so the underarms, perineal area, groin, under the breasts, and between skin folds are often affected.

I like to use tea tree oil to treat scabies. One teaspoon of organic essential oil may be combined with ninety five milliliters of olive oil or aloe vera gel. It is then applied as above. I apply undiluted tea tree oil directly to lesions to relieve itching and provide a concentrated dose of the oil to areas which are infested.

Essential oils are strong. Avoid getting them into the eyes. Repeat the treatments at least twice. Leave the oils on overnight and bathe with soap and water the next morning. You may want to apply a diluted drop of oil to your skin and wait an hour. If your skin is sensitive to the oil and is red or itchy at the site of the test drop, do not use that oil.
