Sprain Treatment For Every Type of Sprain

Print out this article and post it on your refrigerator so you will know what to do if you sprain any part of your body.

Overall Strategy for Sprain Treatment

Generally speaking, all sprains are treated similarly:

1. The use of ice packs on the affected area decreases pain that accompanies a sprain. First lay down a few towel layers on the skin, and then add the cold pack. Next cover the cold pack with another towel. This way the cold diffuses slowly into the area and your body is not shocked in any way by it.

2. Stopping excessive movement to allow healing to occur is important; however, don’t restrict movement totally. Research studies show that patients heal faster if they continue moving the part that is sprained, as long as the movement doesn’t cause more damage and/or more pain.

3. Try rubbing magnesium gel on the affected area.

4. Consume two heaping tablespoons diatomaceous earth (food grade only) in beverage each day. This will support the healing of all connective tissue (muscles, ligaments, joints, tendons and bones).

5. As time goes on, begin to use heat, which will bring additional circulation to the area.

Sprain Treatment for Different Parts of the Body

Now let’s see what else can be done for sprain treatment of different body parts.

Neck Sprain

This is a type of sprain where you’ll want to schedule a doctor’s appointment to make sure that you don’t have damage that is more serious. Other types of treatment that will help include: massage therapy, electrotherapy or myotherapy, cold laser, traction, chiropractic treatments, inversion therapy, and cervical decompression therapy (chiropractic method).

Back Sprain

This is another type of sprain where a doctor’s appointment (or chiropractic evaluation) will rule out any more serious injuries. Other types of treatment that will help: massage therapy, electrotherapy or myotherapy, cold laser, traction, chiropractic treatments, inversion therapy, and decompression therapy (chiropractic method).

Knee Sprain

Depending on the severity of this sprain, you may seek a doctor’s evaluation. If the sprain is severe, surgery may be needed to repair it. A knee brace may be used to help overcome instability during the healing process.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation may be needed to retrain and balance muscles that may have led to the injury in the beginning and/or balance muscles that are overworked during recovery.

A chiropractor may remedy any misalignment in the knee joint as well. Elevating the knee and resting the knee goes a long way to help foster healing. Sports taping before activities is very helpful, too.
