The skin is the biggest organ of the body. Like the liver, the skin is an organ of elimination. The liver deactivates toxins. Some of the deactivated toxins are eliminated via the skin. If chemicals from the body and environment are not deactivated by the liver prior to being eliminated through the skin and other organs, the toxins cause inflammation and irritation. Redness, itching, blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples may result. A healthy liver is needed to improve the health of the skin.

Burdock seeds and roots are beneficial. Burdock is a common weed throughout the northern hemisphere. Japanese cooks use burdock root, called gobo, as a vegetable. If you have access to gobo, include it in your diet on a regular basis. One of the best ways to incorporate herbs into your wellness routine is to simply include them in your diet. Try gobo in stews with potatoes, turnip, carrots, parsnips and other winter vegetables.

Burdock root is a nourishing herb which may be used for long term health. Burdock is rich in carbohydrates and minerals. It has a mild flavor.

To relieve and prevent acne, as well as improve the health of your liver and digestive tract, make a decoction of burdock root. Simmer four teaspoons of the root in one quart of water for twenty minutes. Keep a cover on the pot. Strain out the herbs and compost them. Drink three to four cups of the tea throughout the day. You may not see improvement in your skin for a month or two, but once the burdock begins to work, you will see noticeable improvement in your skin.
