Useful Herbs For Natural Bladder Infection Treatment

Herbal remedies are effective bladder infection treatments. They prevent infections, relieve symptoms, and promote healing.

Here is an overview of a few herbs which have a role in natural bladder infection treatment.

Cranberries and Blueberries

Cranberries and blueberries prevent bacteria from adhering to bladder walls, where they can multiply. Instead, cranberries and blueberries facilitate elimination of bacteria from the urinary tract. Cranberries and blueberries weaken bacteria so that the immune system can destroy the microorganisms easier. In addition, blueberries and cranberries help to lower the pH of urine, creating an inhospitable environment for bacterial growth.

Drink a minimum of two to four ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice daily; or eat two cups of blueberries each day in order to reduce your risk of contracting urinary infections. If you have a bladder infection, then drink two to four ounces of cranberry juice four times each day; or eat a minimum of two cups of blueberries each day. Do not use juice made with artificial sweeteners as they may irritate your bladder.

If you prefer, you may opt to use cranberry tablets. Use 1000 mg twice daily for preventative purposes. If an infection is present, take 2000 mg at least four times each day while the infection is present.

Corn Silk

Corn silk does not cure bladder infections, but it provides rapid relief for burning, urgency, and other discomforts related to urinary infections.

The best way to use corn silk is to make a tea. Simply pour hot water over the light colored silk from one ear of corn. Let the silk and hot water sit, covered, for about twenty minutes. Strain the silk out and drink the tea. Consume as much corn silk tea as you desire. It will provide rapid, soothing relief to inflamed tissues. Corn silk helps to flush the infection out of the bladder.

If you prefer, you may make or purchase a liquid extract of corn silk. You may be able to obtain some from a local herbalist. If not, you may make your own by covering fresh corn silk with apple cider vinegar or vodka in a jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake the blend daily for two weeks. Be sure that the corn silk remains completely submerged in the liquid. After two weeks, strain out the silk. Use one teaspoon of the remaining liquid extract four times daily if you have a urinary infection.

Uva Ursi

Uva ursi is a North American herb which may be gathered in the wild or purchased, dried, from herbalists. Use the leaves of this creeping forest floor plant. It is also known as bearberry. You may choose to use a tincture, as the flavor of uva ursi is unpleasant.

Uva ursi possesses astringent, antiseptic, and diuretic qualities. Each of these principles helps to relieve suffering experienced due to bladder infections. Uva ursi helps to tone, soothe, and strengthen the urinary tract. It helps to flush bacteria from the system.
