What Is Zeolite? Learn About This Mineral Here

Zeolite has been touted for its many benefits. Amongst the effects attributed to zeolite have been its incredible detoxifying effects, and its positive effects at the cellular level.

Zeolite even has many roles in modern medicine! Its medical applications include use in coagulation therapy, detoxicants, decontaminants, antibacterial agents, and immunologic agents.

Zeolites are also being investigated for potential benefits in other areas, including gastrointestinal function, tumor suppression, and in therapies for diabetes mellitus. Clearly, zeolite has many remarkable benefits – and many people have become aware of it as an excellent natural remedy. However, one thing that has not been elucidated is the answer to the question: what is zeolite?

Zeolite (or zeolites) is a type of mineral that results from formation of elements such as sodium, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, and potassium, amongst others. It is known for its microporous property – that is, it contains many tiny holes, and is highly absorbent.

This particular type of mineral was discovered in 1756 by a Swedish scientist named Axel Fredrik Cronstedt during the rapid heating of stilbite. He found that unexpectedly large amounts of steam were released – this occurring due to the extreme porousness of zeolite. “Zeolite” literally translates to “boil stone.”

Many natural zeolites are formed in areas where volcanic rocks, ash, and (alkaline – basic / high pH) water come into contact with each other and react to form the mineral material.

What zeolite does in the body is thought to be due to its porous structure. This unique mineral is able to selectively “sort” molecules by allowing some to pass through its pores and others not to. This is why it makes an excellent detoxifying agent, as well as a remedy for other processes that require the separation of materials in the body.

Interestingly, though zeolite has only been in modern medicine for a few decades, it is believed that it has been in use in Asia for much longer. In this context, it is used as a natural remedy to support overall health and wellness – a use that makes perfect sense given its ability to naturally purify the body.

Zeolite, like many of earth’s natural remedies, has substantial health benefits that one doesn’t need to be in a laboratory or hospital to benefit from. Though it is important to always consult one’s health care professional before beginning any new regiment, the answer to the question “what is zeolite?” seems to suggest it is an excellent natural way to improve one’s health.
