Add These Nutrient-Dense Superfoods To Your Diet

Separately, Dr Nicholas Perricone, M.D., a clinical and research dermatologist who got his medical degree in just three years, has come up with his list of 10 superfoods which is said to help us look better and defy the effects of aging.

Dr Nicholas Perricone’s 10 Superfoods

Acai fruit – said to be one of the most nutritious foods known

• Allium Family, i.e. chives, garlic, leeks, onions, scallions, shallots – a wide range of documented health effects, especially for garlic, including anti-cancer effects

• Barley

• Green Foods – such foods are usually extremely rich in nutrients

• Buckwheat – high in amino acids and protein

• Beans and Lentils – good sources of antioxidants and potassium

• Hot Peppers – sources of antioxidants, high in vitamin C, and also good for improving circulation

• Nuts and Seeds (raw) – good sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids and protein

• Sprouts – great sources of proteins, vitamin C and nutrients in general; the grass is said to be much more nutritious than the grain

• Yogurt and Kefir – contains beneficial good bacteria

You may or may not agree with all of these suggestions, but, in my opinion, his 10 superfoods certainly look like useful additions to anyone’s diet.

Those who choose not to consume animal-based foods would naturally omit yogurt / kefir from their diets.

Why do we need to consume superfoods?

Well, strictly speaking, if we consume a varied healthy diet containing mainly organic, raw and whole foods, we should be getting more than our fair share of nutrition needed for excellent and vibrant health.

However, due to issues such as soil depletion, the food which we grow today has significantly less nutrients than it once did one or two hundred years ago. It is thus a good idea to supplement our nutritional needs with superfoods.

Further, the use of superfoods can really supercharge your health and bring it to a new level altogether, a level which is very difficult to obtain using ‘normal’ foods alone.
Broadly speaking, here are 10 superfoods health benefits which I can think of.

My Favorite Top 10 Superfood Health Benefits

• Excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals

• Excellent source of antioxidants, which offer many health benefits and protective effects

• Is nutritionally complete and very concentrated, including many phytochemicals (plant chemicals) whose positive health effects are not yet known to us

• Easily digested and assimilated by your body, enabling its nutrients to be used within literally minutes

• Regulates and improves factors such as your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, digestion, metabolism, etc

• Improves the health of various organs in your body, including vital organs such as the heart, liver, pancreas and kidneys

• Boosts your immune system greatly, helping it to fight all sorts of health issues

• Helps protect against and prevent serious diseases, such as cancer

• Gives you an indescribable energy boost

• Improves your mental clarity and function

Personally, I, like many others, consume a superfoods diet by adding a superfood powder or superfood supplements to my daily dietary intake. It feels really good.

Truth be told, there are more than just the abovementioned 10 superfood health benefits. You will probably have to try it for yourself to really believe it, and I’m quite sure you will not regret it. Chances are, you won’t be looking back thereafter either!
