How To Enjoy The Many Health Benefits Of Eucommia

Taking Eucommia in its whole-herb form

If you prefer to use the whole-herb in your health routine, below are some recipes you could try out to prepare dishes and soups that incorporate Eucommia bark.

Eucommia in Scallop Stew

  • Eucommia bark – 20g (ground into powder)

  • fresh scallop – 200g (with shell removed)
  • celery – 190g
  • water chestnut – 50g (skin removed)
  • ginger – 5g
  • onion – 10g
  • salt 5g
  • olive oil or coconut oil – 50g
  • flavored soup base of your choice – 300ml (the simplest though least flavorful alternative is boiled water)

Slice the washed scallop, celery, water chestnut, ginger and onion into smaller bits. Heat up the oil, and lightly stir-fry the ginger and onion for a few minutes till fragrance is emitted. Then add in the scallop, celery, water chestnut and Eucommia powder for stir-frying for a few more minutes. Finally, add in the soup base, and allow the mixture to simmer for about 20 minutes.

Walnut and Eucommia in Chicken Stew

  • walnut – 75g (shell removed)

  • Eucommia bark – 30g
  • chicken – 1 (skin removed and washed, chopped into smaller pieces)
  • ginger – 3 slices
  • salt (to taste)
  • cooking wine (to taste)

Place the chicken pieces, walnut, Eucommia bark, ginger and cooking wine into 250ml of water, and allow the contents to simmer. Add salt to taste.

Eucommia Porridge

  • Eucommia bark – 10g

  • uncooked rice grains – 100g
  • blackstrap molasses or other reasoning (to taste)
  • other ingredients like carrots, lean pork, green peas (depending on your preferences)

After washing the bark, soak it in water for about 10 minutes. After which, boil the bark and the water for about 30 minutes. The Eucommia-boiled water should then be used for cooking the rice grains and other ingredients.
