Good Health Habits Part 1: Food, Diet And Nutrition

Eat cleaner meats / animal-based foods; and / or reduce your intake of meats / animal-based foods

While there are different schools of thought as to whether humans are meant to eat meat and animal-based foods, and whether going vegan would result in any nutritional deficiencies, there are two main issues with most of our meat-eating habits today.

Firstly, most of us are eating way too much meat and animal-based foods. If that applies to you, cutting down intake would thus be sensible.

The other issue – and this is a significant one – is that we mainly eating dirty meat and animal-based foods. Commercially-farmed animals today are bred in terrible living conditions (e.g. they are not able to roam around freely or get any sunshine), injected with hormones to make them grow more quickly, fed dubious food (e.g. diseased animal parts), and injected with and fed drugs and steroids when they fall ill. Further, their flesh is chemically processed in order to keep longer. Cows are injected with hormones to increase their milk output, while hens are also injected to boost their egg production.

Do you really want to be eating lots of this rubbish? Those artificial hormones, antibiotics and other harmful chemicals are doing untold damage to your health. Although it is very difficult to totally avoid them, the thought of consuming them makes me feel rather icky, to be frank. To protect your health, you could, again, cut down on your intake of animal-based foods, or choose healthier versions, such as organic meats, milk and eggs which come from cows and hens which are allowed to roam and not given antibiotics and hormones, etc.

Over-consumption of meat and animal-based food products, particularly those which contain artificial hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals, has been linked to numerous chronic illnesses. This little good health tip could thus go a long way toward protecting you against serious disease.

Drink some fresh fruit and / or vegetable juice everyday

Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices are power-packed nutritional blasts — they contain many vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytochemicals essential for good health. Because the juice has been removed from the food fiber, the nutrients are more absorbable by the body, and the body is also saved the effort of digestion. In addition, the juices are a source of water for the body.

Watch your intake of juices from sweet fruits, though, especially non-organic ones as they tend to have higher sugar content – the sugar could be problematic for some. Personally, I find my body reacts better to non-sweet vegetable juices. As always, listen to your body.

Take a good whole food supplement

Our soils today are depleted, and even organically grown foods do not contain as much nutrients as they once did. Further, our bodies are subject to more stress and toxin intake today than they ever were. Thus, I believe some form of supplementation is necessary.

However, I don’t like vitamin and mineral pills because I have my doubts about the sources of these nutrients. Some of them have been found to originate from waste metals and even sewage sludge! I prefer my nutrients to come from natural foods, grown within nature. Barley grass , alfalfa grass, wheat grass , chlorella, spirulina — these are some of the more popular ones. I take one which mixes a few of these foods, termed nature’s “superfoods“.

Avoid poison and toxic intake in your food

Avoid foods with unnatural and chemical additives, preservatives, coloring and flavoring. Learn to read food labels. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, refined sugar and all kinds of drugs. These substances weaken you and accumulate in your body, causing long-term harm.
