Seeking A Natural Cure For Hemorrhoids? Try These Herbal Remedies

Topical Remedies to Shrink Hemorrhoids

Herbal salves and compresses help to shrink hemorrhoids and reduce pain and itchiness. Add twenty milliliters of an herbal tincture to eighty milliliters of witch hazel extract. Tinctures of barberry root, Oregon grape root, or horse chestnut are very effective. They reduce swelling and inflammation. If bleeding is present, these herbs staunch it.

You may apply the mixture as a compress as needed. Use cotton makeup remover pads to make soft compresses. If you prefer, you may put the mixture in a spray bottle. Use it after each bowel movement and as needed to reduce discomfort and aid cleanliness of the anal area.

Five milliliters of a tincture of any of these herbs may be taken internally as well to aid healing.

An herbal salve may be used as well. Salves are soothing and remain on the inflamed tissues longer than the witch hazel preparation. I recommend using both. You may make an herbal salve out of any of the above herbs. In addition, comfrey root, plantain, chickweed, or calendula may be included.

To make a salve, you need to prepare herbal oil first. Place the herbs in a jar and cover them with olive oil. The oil should cover the herbs by one inch. Apply a lid. Place the mixture at a sunny window. Shake it twice daily for two weeks. When the two weeks are up, strain the mixture through several layers of cheesecloth. Compost the herbs. You may use the resulting infused herbal oil as is or you may make a salve.

To make the salve, pour one cup of the oil into the top of a double boiler. Add one fourth of a cup of finely grated beeswax. Heat the mixture, until the wax is melted. Pour into hot, dry sterilized jars. Apply the cooled salve several times daily to the anal tissues.

The Bottom Line (No Pun Intended)

Use herbs to prevent hemorrhoid formation as well as to reduce pain and swelling. Herbal treatments are very effective, inexpensive and reliable natural remedies for hemorrhoids.
