What To Expect With Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine uses plant and animal parts, as well as minerals for the treatment of illness.

Although the word “herb” is normally used to refer to plants, the commonly used phrase “TCM herbs” (used probably for lack of a better term) actually refers to medicinal plants, animals and minerals found in the TCM physician’s medicinal supply.

However, it is not the intention of TCM practitioners to pretend that they deal only with plants. Rather, it is a translation problem that leads non-practitioners to come to the conclusion that Traditional Chinese Medicine uses no animal parts.

Hence, if you are adverse to the use of medicinal animals or minerals in your TCM remedy, you can make it known to your TCM physician.
