6 Cholesterol Lowering Supplements You Could Take

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which lowers unhealthy cholesterol levels and fights inflammation. Use natural vitamin C with bioflavonoids as they provide health benefits to your entire body. Some practitioners recommend up to 8000 milligrams daily, in divided doses. For most people, I believe that 1000-3000 milligrams is enough. Again, if using a multivitamin, check to see how much vitamin C is contained within it prior to supplementing with additional vitamin C.

Policosanol

Policosanol is derived from beeswax or sugarcane. It reduces blood pressure and unhealthy cholesterol. In addition, policosanol prevents unhealthy blood clots from forming.

Chromium Picolinate

Chromium picolinate lowers unhealthy cholesterol while increasing the healthy HDL cholesterol. Consume 400-600 micrograms each day.

Lecithin

Lecithin is available in the form of granules or capsules. The granules may be added to smoothies or other foods. Lecithin lowers unhealthy cholesterol levels. It helps to break down fatty particles which comprise cholesterol.

If you choose to use the granules, try using one tablespoon three times per day. If you opt for capsules, 1200 milligrams three times daily is recommended. Take lecithin prior to meals.

In addition to lecithin’s cholesterol lowering properties, lecithin enhances the health of the brain. It protects the nerve covering called the myelin sheath.

Using Natural Supplements To Lower Cholesterol Levels

All of these supplements will help you to reach and maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Please remember that supplements are simply tools. They are not a substitute for exercise and a healthy diet. Check with your health care provider if you have questions or if you are using pharmaceutical medications prior to implementing supplement use.
