Saw Palmetto: Does it Work?

Where I live, every fall, huge quantities of saw palmetto berries are gathered from the scrubland. Saw palmetto has a reputation as a remedy for shrinking enlarged prostate glands and as a male aphrodisiac.

This herb enhances a healthy hormone balance. It improves urinary flow. Saw palmetto reduces urinary retention. It relieves urination which is painful. Taking saw palmetto may reduce night trips to the bathroom for urination.

Saw palmetto is a worthwhile herb which enhances the health of both men and women. However, it must be prepared correctly. Only fresh saw palmetto berry/ fruit is useful. One to two milliliters of a one gram per milliliter extract taken twice daily is needed.

Do not make a tea of saw palmetto, as the active ingredients are not water soluble. Freshly ground saw palmetto berries may be consumed. If using fresh berries, take 10 grams twice each day. The berries are bitter tasting.

If using a capsule, it should contain 85-95% fatty acids. Take 320 milligrams daily.

It takes four to six weeks of consistent use before benefits are observed in most cases.

Saw palmetto is not recommended for the treatment of advanced BPH, which is accompanied by severe difficulty urinating.

Have a Handful of Pumpkin Seeds to Improve the Health of Your Prostate Gland

Crunchy pumpkin seeds are terrific sources of protein and healthy fatty acids. I consider them to be a valuable herbal food.

Pumpkin seeds prevent and relieve symptoms of mild to moderate prostate enlargement. You will sleep better, as you may not have to get up as frequently to urinate if you include pumpkin seeds in your diet.

Pumpkin seeds alleviate many of the symptoms of BPH. They help to regulate sex hormones.

Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc. Zinc is necessary for the functioning of the male genito-urinary tract.

Eat two grams of pumpkin seeds daily for maximum benefits.

Herbs are great tonics for prostate health. They promote healthy hormone balance and relieve symptoms of BPH. If you experience symptoms which you believe may be due to an enlarged prostate gland, seek professional advice prior to implementing herbal remedies. A complete physical exam is needed to reach a correct diagnosis and to rule out serious ills, such as prostate cancer.
