Home Treatments For Stomach Flu

Treat

Since most cases of stomach flu are mild and clear up within a couple of days, medication is usually not required. However, there are several things you can do to treat the symptoms and help your body eliminate the source of the sickness.

* Charcoal tablets – take 5 tablets at onset, and then 5 more in six hours to remove toxins

* Garlic – 3 tablets 3x per day – powerful anti-bacterial properties

* Vitamin supplements – 1000mg vitamin C and 400 IU vitamin E daily to support immune system

* Enemas or colon cleanse – seek out a professional if you are uncomfortable doing this at home or try an oral supplement cleansing formula.

Replenish

When you are fighting an infection your body is using precious energy and nutrients to defend itself. Your intestinal flora may be compromised if you have been fighting an infection or have taken antibiotics. It is vital to nourish your body so it can regain proper health.

* Replace fluids – Drink plenty of water and diluted juices like cranberry or orange, or sports drinks to balance electrolytes. Warm soups and teas are soothing to an upset stomach.

* Eat fresh – Increase consumption of whole fruits like oranges and blueberries to keep immune system functioning well.

* Reset digestion – Include a probiotic yogurt or supplement in your daily diet to replace healthy digestive bacteria and ensure proper digestion and immune function.

If your symptoms are severe or do not clear up within a few days, be sure to consult your doctor or call your local poison control office. If you suspect that you contracted a food-borne illness at a restaurant, make a report with your health department so the problem can be addressed and no one else gets sick. And as for my client, she vows to never drink unsafe water again, no matter how pristine it may seem.
