Estrogen metabolism has long been known to be an important factor in the development of breast cancer, and the study led by Doctor Barbara Fuhrman found that consumption of green tea will significantly reduce estrogen metabolites by influencing enzymes that metabolize estrogen. This is thought to be caused by polyphenols that are found in rich quantities in green tea.

MedIndia also reports that studies conducted by Mayo Clinic have shown that a substance in green tea called epigalloacatechin gallate (EGCG) lowers the number of leukemia cells in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. They also report that there have been some positive studies of protection against bladder cancer in women.

Astragalus or Huang Qi

This traditional Chinese medicine herb is great to use as an herb for cancer. A 2012 Natural News article reports that this is especially because it is “an adaptogenic, nontoxic herb and plant extract that helps the body resist the damaging effects of stress while restoring normal physiological function”. The article also mentions studies conducted by the University of Houston that show astragalus significantly enhancing immune function in cancer patients by increasing T-cell counts. Their studies have shown that the herb increases the ability of certain cells to kill cancer cells.

It is also an important herb for cancer if you are going through chemotherapy, because it reduces the consequences of fatigue, weight loss, anemia and nausea.
