Avoid Hidden Migraine Triggers In Food

Tannins are found in:
* coffee
* tea
* chocolate
* red wine
* apple juice

Although tannins and tyramine are natural substances, if you are prone to migraines, you will want to avoid them at all costs even if you have eaten them all your life. Overexposure to certain compounds may be responsible for a sudden sensitivity, so err on the side of caution and eliminate these foods from your diet.

More than MSG

Even though MSG has been generally viewed as safe, it has always had a reputation for causing allergic reactions. It is an extremely common additive in many processed and restaurant foods due to its unique ability to make stuff taste good. However, it can be difficult to avoid due to the many forms that MSG can take in food items, so it is crucial to look for all the types of additives that are derived from this substance.

* Hydrolyzed Soy or Vegetable Protein
* Maltodextrin
* Sodium or Calcium Caseinate
* Yeast of any kind
* Mono-Potassium Glutamate

In addition to reading labels for anything that looks remotely processed, you may also want to eat more frequently during the day. Snacking on small nutritious items can keep blood sugar stable and prevent a migraine at the end of a long day.

Since there can be many causes of migraines, and you will not react to all of them the same way, it might be wise to keep a journal of your food choices and the symptoms they may be causing. Eliminate them one at a time and observe how your symptoms improve over time, but be cautious about re-introducing them again. Your body may remain sensitive to these substances for a long time.

I know that some of the best things in life (chocolate!) are on this list, but you’ll find new favorites, and you’ll thank yourself for avoiding the red wine when it doesn’t come with a migraine. Trust me.
