Eat two tablespoonfuls of freshly ground flaxseed daily.

Broccoli, clover, or mung bean sprouts should be eaten several times each week.

Soy and foods made with soy are good sources of plant estrogens. Soy aids cardiovascular health. It contains protein. Eating soy foods is the best way to reap the benefits of soy. Soy capsules and pills do not work as well. Eat soy products such as edamame, soy milk, and tofu. Soy products such as artificial hamburgers and soy snack bars are not as useful as the less processed soy foods. Foods to Limit or Avoid

Only eat fish twice weekly. Do not eat farm-raised fish. The best fish to eat are cold water, deep ocean fish such as mackerel, salmon, and herring.

Limit poultry and red meat. Obtain protein from vegetarian sources instead. If you do eat meat, only eat meat from organic, free range, or grass fed animals.

Avoid dairy products. If you use dairy products, choose organic forms to avoid exposure to added hormones and other toxins.

Limit or avoid professed foods, alcohol and caffeine.

Plant estrogens, phytoestrogens , are not true estrogens; however, they offer benefits which restore healthy hormone balance. Phytoestrogens block harmful or excess estrogens from accumulating and causing the development of hot flashes, fibroid tumors, cancer, and other maladies.

Several plants contain healthy estrogen-like substances. Others promote health by other mechanisms. Turmeric, thyme, and sorrel contain phytoestrogens. Nettles provide lubrication and nourishment to reproductive tissues. Red clover is relaxing and is a source of phytoestrogens. Black cohosh helps to relieve hot flashes and relieve menstrual pain. Vitex is a great hormone regulator. It helps to ensure a regular monthly cycle and relieves symptoms of PMS. Licorice root improves hormone balance. It is sometimes used in the treatment of infertility.

Wild yam is used internally and topically as a natural progesterone substitute. It can help to control issues related to menopause.

Drinking one quart of cooled sage tea relieves hot flashes in most women. It takes about two weeks for the sage to take effect.
