Make Your Home Sparkling Clean Using Essential Oils

Air Freshener

No one likes to come home to a house full of odors, but rather than reaching for a toxic spray to drown the smell, why not neutralize and freshen the air in your home naturally? Misting bright, fresh essential oils into a room is much more effective and healthy than inhaling all those fumes out of a can, plus they smell amazing.

Mix the following ingredients in a 16oz spray bottle:

* Basil – 10 drops
* Lavender – 10 drops
* Witch Hazel – 4oz
* Distilled Water – 12oz

Mist generously throughout the room and over furniture and drapery. The essential oils trap odors and airborne allergens, leaving a fresh, clean environment.

Carpet Deodorizer

The thick fibers of your carpet are a natural trap for dirt, pet dander and odors. Regular vacuuming may not be enough to disinfect and freshen them, but a generous sprinkle of this natural deodorizer can go a long way to revive trampled carpets and rugs.

Mix the following ingredients in a jar with a few holes poked in the lid:

* Lavender – 10 drops
* Rosemary – 10 drops
* Lemon – 10 drops
* Baking Soda – 2 cups

Sprinkle evenly on carpets; leave on for 30 min then vacuum. Use weekly for best results.

Laundry Soak

Stubborn stains can be easily removed from clothes and other fabrics with just a few natural, safe ingredients, and a little time. Soaking your clothes before throwing them in the wash can preserve precious fabrics while ensuring that dirt and grime will disappear down the drain.

Mix the following ingredients in a clean sink or large basin:

* Tea Tree – 5 drops
* Lavender – 5 drops
* Sea Salt – 1/2 cup
* White Vinegar – 8oz
* Hot Water – 16oz

Soak one or two laundry items in solution for one hour. Repeat if necessary. Wash as usual.

Ever since I started making my own cleaning products, I have never returned to commercial ones. In fact, I’m sure that once you convert to more natural products, you won’t even be able to stand the smell of harsh chemicals anymore. Your home will be cleaner and safer once you ditch the toxic potions and create your own healthy home-care products.
