Natural Cures For Cold Sores – A Holistic Treatment

It Does a Body Good

My clients are always a little surprised when I give them a nutritional task list. Even though we know that good nutrition is important, it’s easy to take for granted the healing powers of supplements from the health food store.

* L-Lysine – 1500mg daily – aids in the production of antibodies and tissue repair (do not take for longer than 6 months)

* Vitamin A – 10000IU daily – important for healing; prevents spreading of infection (not for longer than two months in a row)

* Vitamin B complex – 50mg of each major B vitamin 3x daily

* Vitamin C – 1000mg daily – prevents and inhibits growth of the virus

* Vitamin E – 200IU daily – supports healing and prevents spreading of the infection

* Zinc – 100mg daily – boosts immune function

* Garlic – 3 tablets 3x a day at onset of symptoms (use odorless formula)

* Calcium – 1500mg daily – relieves stress

* Magnesium – 750mg daily – soothes nervous system

The above levels are for adults only. Children 12 to 17 years should take 3/4 dose, 6 to 12 years take 1/2 dose, and children under 6 years take 1/4 dose.

Topically Healing

There are many topical cold sore creams out there, but if you want some serious healing power, look to essential oils. These medicinal plant concentrates not only smell amazing, they also are effective for killing viruses and healing skin tissues.

I often custom blend essential oils for my clients in my office, but you can also make one for yourself at home. The anti-viral, anti-inflammatory properties of these oils will heal and soothe outbreaks, and support you on an emotional level as well.

Cold Sore Healing Oil

Mix the following essential oils in a 15ml dropper bottle or other glass container and fill with almond oil. Dab on affected area with a cotton swab several times per day.

* Tea tree – 10 drops
* Oregano – 10 drops
* Eucalyptus – 8 drops
* Geranium – 6 drops
* Lavender – 8 drops
* Roman Chamomile – 6 drops

Always use therapeutic grade essential oils, and never put them undiluted on your skin. Do not take internally or use near eyes or other sensitive areas.

Although this is a very common infection, it can be a sign that your self-care routine has slipped. When you feel that little tickle under your skin, take notice and make healthy choices, so you can always put your best face forward.
