Safe Treatments For Genital Herpes During Pregnancy

Feed and Nurture

It is important to support your immune system and give your body the proper nutrients it needs to heal tissue and combat stress. Treat your body gently while healing from an outbreak, and during your pregnancy in general. A combination of nutritional supplements and essential oil applications offer your body the tools necessary to keep outbreaks under control.

Nutritional Supplements

* Garlic capsules – take 2 capsules daily to inhibit dormant virus, take 6 capsules 3x a day if you feel an outbreak coming on (use a deodorized formula)

* Lysine – 400mg daily; there is conflicting opinion on the safety of taking this natural amino acid during pregnancy, so consult your doctor before taking this supplement; however, lysine is abundant in many foods such as beans, peas, lentils, red meat, potatoes and yogurt, to name a few

* Vitamin C – 500mg 2x daily, promotes tissue repair and boosts immunity

* Vitamin A – 10000IU daily when healing an outbreak; do not exceed this limit or take for more than a few weeks at a time

Topical Treatments

The healing properties of essential oils can be extremely effective at fighting viruses and repairing tissues. You may want to consult your health care practitioner before using these while pregnant, but the following formula should be safe for topical use. Mix the essential oils with the vitamin E oil and apply directly to affected areas with a cotton swab three times per day to soothe tissue and promote healing.

* Tea Tree – 4 drops; powerful anti-viral and anti-septic constituents
* Eucalyptus – 2 drops; detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties
* Geranium – 2 drops; cleanses and heals wounds
* Vitamin E Oil – (10000IU) 1oz; heals and soothes irritated tissue

Often, herpes outbreaks tend to burn themselves out after a number of years, so if you have had infections in the past, they may occur less frequently with a reduced set of symptoms as time goes by. Be sure you have discussed a birthing plan with your health care practitioner, as it is common (but not always necessary) for women with genital herpes to deliver via caesarian section to reduce exposure to the baby. Up until that moment, however, treat yourself with love and respect, and support your immune system to keep this virus quiet as a sleeping baby.
