Using Herbs As A Home Remedy For UTI

Urinary tract infections, also known as UTIs, may occur in people of all ages. They are most common in women; however, men and children get them as well.

You may have a urinary tract infection if you experience these symptoms: burning with urination, feelings of having to “go” frequently, feeling like you “can’t hold it”, and urinating in small amounts. You may feel like you have to urinate, yet nothing comes out.

It is essential that you get diagnosed and begin treatment quickly. Otherwise, a bladder infection may rapidly become a more serious kidney infection. If you have a history of urinary tract infections, you may take measures to prevent an infection from occurring and implement strategies which will heal the infection rapidly, if one should occur.

Home remedies for UTIs are an essential and effective part of a program to reduce the frequency of UTIs as well and reduce symptoms.

Use Herbs to Promote Urinary System Health

I consider herbs and herbal foods invaluable when treating UTIs .They offer several healing benefits. Use blueberries and cranberries to prevent UTIs, and to soothe inflamed tissues, should an infection arise. Corn silk, marshmallow root, and chick weed are emollient herbs which provide rapid relief when consumed as herbal teas. Let’s take a look at a few of my favorite herbs for urinary health.

Does Cranberry Juice Prevent UTIs?

Some common foods offer potent health benefits. I consider them to be foods with the healing qualities of herbs. Cranberries and blueberries are examples of herbal foods. They both are effective home remedies for UTIs.

Vast arrays of studies have proven that cranberries are effective remedies for UTIs. Blueberries have similar properties. Cranberries fight infection by three separate mechanisms.

Cranberries and blueberries prevent bacteria from attaching to the walls of the bladder. As a result, bacteria remain floating in urine, where they can be passed out of the body, instead of clinging to the bladder walls and multiplying.

Another way that cranberries and blueberries prevent UTIs is by making the urine more acidic. Bacteria are unable to multiply as well in acidic urine.

The third way that cranberries and blueberries resist urinary infections is by direct antibacterial actions which weaken and kill bacteria.

Sometimes, people tell me that they drink cranberry juice and it does not help them. While cranberries and blueberries cannot prevent and heal all UTIs, if used correctly they are very valuable aids. It is important to use enough cranberries and / or blueberries and to choose the right products.

If you are prone to UTIs, eat two cups of blueberries, or drink two to four ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice each day. If you have signs of a urinary infection, drink two to four ounces of cranberry juice four times each day. Drink unsweetened juice as the sweetened variety does not afford the same benefits. Avoid juice sweetened with artificial sweeteners entirely, as artificial sweeteners often exacerbate the development of irritation and infection within the urinary tract. You may use cranberry tablets instead of the juice. Follow instructions on the product label.
