Vitamin C: Another Anti Aging Vitamin
Vitamin C has been used topically in vitamin C serums and other cosmetics for over a decade now. The effects of vitamin C on wrinkle reversal are well documented. For example, in one Chinese study, 15 of 20 patients with photo-aged skin were very satisfied with the anti aging benefits on their skin surface, fine lines, and uneven skin tones from a topical vitamin C serum (23.8%).
But vitamin C has other anti aging effects in the body. In one Korean study, researchers found positive anti-aging effects when they added vitamin C to cardiac stem cells in the laboratory. If your heart cells can live longer, there’s a good chance you will be preventing a heart attack.
Vitamin E: Known Anti Aging Vitamin
Despite negative media reports on vitamin E, studies have shown that vitamin E supplements extend the lifespan. In one recent study of mice at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom, mice lived 15% longer after taking a vitamin E supplement.
In humans, 400 IU vitamin E consumed internally reduces wrinkles and photodamage while simultaneously improving the texture of the skin.
Food Sources of Anti Aging Vitamins
Foods high in vitamin C include hot chili peppers, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, bell peppers, kiwis, tangerines, strawberries, and papayas. None of these foods are high in vitamin D; you’ll need foods such as salmon, swordfish, sardines, liver, eggs, or milk products that are fortified with the vitamin. Also, cod liver oil is one of the very best sources.
Foods high in vitamin E include nuts and seeds such as sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, pine nuts, spinach and taro root.
