3 Natural Alternative Treatments For Depression

Healing Stones

Although it can be hard to understand how a rock can help you emotionally, the crystalline structure of certain stones can definitely carry healing vibrations. After all, they are composed of the building blocks of the earth, which energetically supports us all, so using them for healing purposes makes sense. I have used crystals personally and professionally for many years, and am continually fascinated by their capacity to affect mood and outlook.

Find a good quality stone, either raw or cut and polished, and carry it in your pocket or wear as a necklace over your heart area. It can be helpful to hold the stone in your hands when you feel overwhelmed by sad or stressful thoughts and feelings. Allow the stone to help you release negativity and raise your own positive vibrations by sitting with it for up to 10 minutes daily.

* Lithium Quartz – this element is used in certain anti-depressants, and can help ease negative emotions, stress and tension.

* Citrine – promotes positive energy and confidence, helps to achieve success

* Rose Quartz – one of the most powerful healing stones for easing emotional pain, cultivates love and compassion and a connection to universal love

Energizing Breath

When you look at a person who is depressed, their posture not only reveals their state of mind, but can actually aggravate their symptoms. A slumping in the shoulders, and a forward collapse in the upper chest area resulting from lack of self-esteem, can contribute to improper breathing and therefore, a lack of oxygen to the brain and body.

The health benefits of breathing are well documented, and proper breathing can help combat this apathetic tendency by increasing oxygen levels and energizing the body. With just a few minutes a day, you can literally breathe your way into a better mood. Plus it’s easy, safe and you can do it anywhere.

* Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor and a straight back. Rest your hands gently in your lap and close your eyes if you wish.

* Begin by inhaling deeply through the nose and try to fill your lungs completely.

* Exhale through the nose and be sure to empty your lungs completely using your stomach muscles.

* Inhale again, but not as deep and then quickly push the air out again with your stomach muscles.

* Continue to slightly inhale and then push the air from your lungs for up to one minute.

Find a few places in your daily routine to incorporate some of these suggestions, and you will be effortlessly supporting positive energy in your environment, which will in turn, affect your mood and behavior. Let changes happen gradually, and over time, your natural vibrational level will rise above the negativity and release you from the destructive cycle of depression.
