4 Remedies To Relieve Bursitis Hip Pain

Exercise

Although it is initially important that you allow your hip adequate rest, you also need to add some small exercises and stretching to your routine. This is both to make your recovery quicker and to prevent the condition from reappearing by providing improved strength to the hip and the joints.

An Osteopilates article from 2010 recommends the following tips to help alleviate bursitis hip pain:

* Sit with legs together and knees touching each other; do not cross your legs.

* When you walk, try to point your feet straight ahead. It is important not to rotate the hip in any way.

Here are also some great exercises and stretches you could incorporate to your treatment. These are adapted from a Livestrong article in 2011.

* Hip flexor stretch – stand in upright position and place your hands on your hips. Take a long step forward with your right foot and bend your knee so as to lower yourself toward the floor. When your ankle and right knee form a 90-degree angle, touch the floor with your left knee. Keep your back as straight as possible, slowly lean forward and tilt your body to the right. You should be able to feel a stretch in your left hip. Stay in this position for 30 seconds and slowly get back up. Do this exercise a few times by changing sides.

* Wide-legged forward bend – this is a great yoga pose that can help alleviate bursitis hip pain. Stand upright with your feet in a wide stance. Your toes should be facing forward and you need to bend slightly from the hips. As you are bending, take a hold of your lower legs and enhance the stretch by pulling yourself towards the floor with your hands. Hold the position for 30 seconds and slowly get back up.
