5 Ways For Coping With Bipolar Disorder

Move Your Body

Even though it may seem impossible to get out of bed during the depths of depression, a little movement can do wonders for your mood and energy levels. Be wary also of too much exercise like signing up for a marathon even though you have never run more than a mile before – that is a clear signal that you have swung too far the other way.

Try to stay consistent yet moderate in your exercise habits. Focus on energizing walks with friends, which will boost your sense of belonging, to ward off depressive cycles. Include more gentle restorative yoga to balance bouts of over-enthusiasm, and keep your emotional and physical bodies balanced.

Seek Peace Within

Most of the clients that I treat are constantly looking for happiness and satisfaction outside of themselves. They think that something external like a job or approval from a friend is what makes them worthy of feeling good. It is important to find the approval and love we seek from the outside world coming from a source inside.

A meditation practice and breathing exercises are perfect for connecting to our inner selves, and opening up to the harmony that is always there. Joining a meditation group is the perfect practice for being supported on the outside, while finding your strength on the inside. Breathing deliberately through the nose and deep into the belly integrates and releases emotions, and sends signals to the brain that promote security and well-being.

Balance Your Vibe

Our energy fields are influenced by everything around us, so it is important to be sure that our environment is clear and supportive. Clear clutter, and simplify your surroundings. Remove any items that don’t have good memories, or are not needed or usable. Open windows to let in fresh air and light, and include items that evoke positive thoughts or memories.

I encourage you to try a few of these remedies at a time and stick with what works for you, but also be aware of needing to change it up every so often. Check in with yourself and evaluate if things have been working well or need to be tweaked. Take responsibility for your emotional and physical well-being and your body and soul will thank you.
