Diet For ADHD – How To Improve Behavior Through Foods
|
Supplement Food Nutrients
Although it seems like there is a lot to remove from your child’s diet, it is equally important to be sure to add the necessary vitamins and minerals that can help improve symptoms. Feed them healthy, nourishing food consistently, and they will be more settled, calm and focused.
Boost mental function – start the day off with protein to think clearly and keep energy levels balanced
Promote calm – take a calcium/magnesium supplement before bed, or try a valerian capsule to settle nerves
Support brain development – cold water fish such as tuna and salmon are good for proper growth
Eliminate toxins – including acidophilus can help the body get rid of waste that can trigger symptoms
Be sure to consider dosages when giving supplements to children. For ages 12-17, reduce the dose to 3/4 the adult amount, for ages 6-12 use 1/2 the adult dose, and for children 6 and under use 1/4 of the recommended amount.
These are inexpensive and convenient dietary changes that the whole family can adopt, creating a more supportive environment for your ADHD child. Many mothers have shared with me the improvements in mood and behavior just by eliminating sugar. I encourage you to try them out for your family, and who knows, everyone might be thinking more clearly around the breakfast table!
