How To Treat Gingivitis Naturally Using Herbs

Additional Herbs Used to Maintain the Health of the Mouth and Prevent Gingivitis

Simple as this may seem, olive oil is an herbal remedy for gingivitis. Herbalists use olive oil for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties. It is an excellent medium to mix in with other herbs used for the treatment of gingivitis. Use it to make a mouth wash containing cloves, tea tree oil or other herbs to provide soothing relief to inflamed, infected gums.

Peppermint contains cooling menthol. It relieves minor discomfort and fights bacterial and viral infections of the mouth.

Oregano is a potent herb which is rich in antioxidants that promote healing and enhance the immune response so that the body can heal itself. Oregano is an outstanding source of antibacterial compounds. Many studies have confirmed that oregano is a valuable treatment for infections of many types.

Sage is another kitchen herb which is antibacterial. It freshens breath and relieves inflammation.

More palatable than sage, rosemary is a kitchen remedy rich in antioxidants and able to fight infections such as gingivitis.

Simply prepare a tea with kitchen herbs. Add a little salt if desired. Gargle with the blend and expectorate the liquid. Your breath will be fresh and germs will be eliminated. In addition, you will not be using alcohol which is common in most commercial mouthwashes. Alcohol can dry the gums and cause tiny entry points for bacteria to lodge in.

Bayberry is an astringent herb which helps to improve the tone of the oral mucosa. It may be used as a mouthwash as well.

The Bottom Line – Treating Gingivitis

Herbs are powerful allies to employ in the prevention and treatment of gingivitis. They can enhance oral hygiene and relieve pain and infection. Brush and floss carefully. See your dentist on a regular basis so that gingivitis will not be a problem and you will have a healthy mouth and teeth for many years to come.
