Natural Sunburn Remedies – Try These Herbs And Herbal Treatments

Pour into ice cube trays which you have labeled “for external use only”. Store the preparation in the freezer until needed.

To use, apply the ice cubes directly to sunburn or let the herbal blend melt partially and then slather the thick cooling preparation directly to the skin. This is very green in color, but it works well. Children like its deep green color but it can be messy if used over large areas.

Internal Pain Remedies for Sunburn

Using the plantain internally reduces inflammation, discomfort and provides your body with nutrients it needs to regenerate healthy skin. Other herbal remedies may be consumed as well. Any of the herbs which contain salicin are useful. Salicin works like aspirin. It relieves pain, inflammation, and fever.

Willow bark and meadowsweet are the herbs which I reach for when I want a salicin rich herb. Use the tincture or have a cup of meadowsweet or willow tea four times daily. Catnip helps to take fevers down as well. Catnip is an excellent choice for children.

Peppermint tea, especially iced, is soothing. It may be used internally or externally. Plain black tea may be consumed or chilled moist tea bags may be applied to sunburn. Swelling and discomfort are reduced with these herbs.

More Topical Remedies for Sunburn

My favorite burn remedy is essential oil of lavender combined with St John’s wort. They both relieve pain rapidly. You may apply undiluted lavender directly to small burns. If the sunburn is widespread, add 20 drops of lavender oil to two ounces of aloe gel. Keep in the refrigerator for even more soothing benefits.

St John’s wort provides healing relief whenever nerves are inflamed or damaged, such as when skin has been overexposed to the sun. You may make a cooling compress with the tea.

St John’s wort and lavender possess relaxant properties. These are helpful when you simply cannot get comfortable due to sunburn.

The best protection against sunburn is to avoid getting burned in the first place. If you do get burned, despite taking precautions, herbal remedies offer relief without the use of synthetic chemicals which many other medicines include.
