Neck Pain And Headache – Take A Physical Approach

How To Eliminate the Trigger Points

Pressing on them elicits pain, but there’s a way to press on them that won’t produce as much pain. The method to release them is to press on them, cause a bit of pain, and then wait for the body to let the trigger point go. The process goes a lot faster if the patient makes a conscious decision to let the pain go. And once the decision is made, the body follows and the trigger point disappears. Larger golf ball-sized trigger points need several ‘attacks’ but they will disappear as well.

Once the muscle tension in these trigger points disappears, there’s an instant return of the range of motion. A headache will instantly disappear as well. This occurs because trigger points connect to different physical structures (bones, joints, organs). You could have a trigger point in your elbow that causes neck pain and headache or a trigger point in your shoulder or shoulder blade that causes neck pain and headache. This is why it’s important to keep ‘digging’ to get rid of the trigger points.

A session of searching for trigger points and releasing them will usually only last about 30 minutes but it can result in an immediate release of neck pain and headache. That’s what happened to my female patient. She went back to her office happy with the ability to move her neck freely and without headache.

Low Blood Sugar Can Cause Neck Pain and Headache

The second cause of neck pain and headache is low blood sugar. This is easily remedied: simply eat a small meal composed of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Many people skip breakfast and end up with a headache a few hours into their morning. Headaches are a common result of low blood sugar. The neck pain may accompany the headaches because whatever body part is weakened will feel painful when the blood sugar level is low. Have you ever noticed how cranky you get when you don’t eat and how your body aches, too? It’s all related.

Now consider these two causes for neck pain and headache and see what you can do to greatly impact your physical health today.
