Sprain Treatment For Every Type of Sprain

Elbow Sprain

A sling may help but don’t use it too long, as you may develop frozen shoulder. A splint may work better than a sling, or an elastic bandage for support. In some cases, surgery may be necessary.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation of the muscles along with massage therapy is also quite helpful. A chiropractic treatment can help reset a misalignment in the joint, and chiropractors will use ultrasound, electrotherapy, cold laser or other modalities that speed up healing.

Wrist Sprain

Elevation of the wrist makes it easier to avoid swelling. An elastic bandage can help support the wrist and a splint may be used as well.

A misalignment of the joint will be easily remedied by a chiropractor and can reduce swelling due to the misalignment. Chiropractic treatments such as ultrasound, myotherapy, and cold laser will assist with a speedier recovery. Physical therapy and rehabilitation may improve chances that the injury will not re-occur. Sports taping may also help prevent re-injury.

Finger Sprain

To avoid excessive swelling, elevate the hand. Finger splinting will help. Ultrasound, cold laser, or electrotherapy may also stimulate healing.

Thumb Sprain

An elastic bandage may help. Elevation may prevent excessive swelling. A misalignment of the joint is remedied by your chiropractor. Ultrasound, cold laser, and electric therapy will facilitate a faster healing process.

Performing range of motion exercises may prevent long-term consequences. Sports taping may also be indicated in the later stages of healing.

Foot or Ankle Sprain

Use an elastic bandage to wrap your sprained foot or ankle. Elevate your foot higher than your heart. Usually when there’s a sprain in this area, there’s also a misalignment so see your chiropractor for an adjustment.

You’ll most likely notice less pain instantly after the adjustment. Your chiropractor may also use ultrasound, electric therapy, or cold laser therapy on the area to stimulate healing. Sports taping helps if you must walk to or on your job.

Toe Sprain

Use a splint on the toe. Evaluate your feet to ensure that the arches are supported properly in your shoes and that you aren’t excessively pronating or supinating your feet while walking. Obtain orthotics that correct your ergonomics during walking.
