3. Remove any allergens in your home

After you remove any offending foods from your diet, it’s time to consider what’s happening in your home that is contributing. Are you noticing a worsening of sinusitis symptoms when you come home after a day’s work at the office? If so, consider that there’s something in the home that needs to be addressed. Maybe it’s that new polyvinyl shower curtain, the new paint on the wall outgassing, or the new carpet that’s outgassing formaldehyde.

If you suspect the answer is your new paint or new carpeting, then do what new home builders do to eliminate these – crank the house heat up to the highest it will go, leave the house for several hours, preferably overnight, and then return and open up all the windows and doors for 10 minutes.

The chemicals that are outgassing will become volatile the hotter the temperature is. This is the same principle as what happens with a car that has the new car smell. When it’s a very hot day and the car has been locked up, the first thing you notice when opening the door is the volatile chemicals that have outgassed. (Don’t get into the car to breathe this until the chemicals dissipate; chemicals breathed in go directly to your liver where then they will have to be detoxified.)

4. Search high and low for any mold in the home

This is the time where you might want to bring in a mold detective. Sometimes, a mold detective has a mold-sniffing dog who is eager to find any and all sources of mold to its master. Mold is notorious for getting ‘stuck’ in the sinuses and then multiplies, sometimes forming fungus balls from all the fungi that are growing or have died. You can normally deal with mold in the environment but once it hits a certain saturation point in the environment, it begins to overwhelm your body. By removing the mold, you take away the source of your sinusitis and experience relief.

5. Consider the use of nutritional supplements to calm the sinusitis down

Traditionally, the nutrients that are linked with improving sinusitis are vitamin C (up to 15 grams daily), beta-carotene (100,000), vitamin B6 (up to 200 mg), multivitamin (double or triple it for a week), vitamin E (up to 800 IU), chromium (200 mcg), magnesium (up to 600 mg), selenium (limit depends on deficiency or status), zinc (up to 50 mg), proanthocyanidins (300 mg) and flaxseed oil (up to two tablespoons).
