Foods For Constipation Relief And Prevention

Relief is on the Menu

Proper digestion depends mainly on the foods you eat. This is something you have a great deal of control over once you adopt eating habits that support proper digestion and elimination. Even though it can be extremely difficult to change up our diets, once you start feeling more regular, it will be worth the effort.

Focus on eating more raw unprocessed foods like vegetables and whole grains and less junk food like chips and dip. This menu may require a little more planning and preparing than microwaving stuff for dinner, but you will be so much more satisfied and feel great too.
It is also important to avoid dairy products in general, except for yogurt or kefir, which are excellent for maintaining digestive health. I know it’s hard to give up stuff like pizza, but think about how gooey and sticky dairy and wheat products are, and how difficult it is for your body to process. Be gentle to your digestive tract so you can nourish yourself properly.

These menu options contain many food items that promote healthy digestion and relieve constipation. Eat smaller portions and have a couple snacks throughout the day, so your body doesn’t have to digest a large, difficult meal.

* Breakfast – whole grain oatmeal with dried fruit such as raisins, prunes and figs or whole wheat and oat blueberry muffins and an apple-banana yogurt smoothie with chia seeds

* Lunch – quinoa, kale and adzuki beans with roasted sweet potatoes or barley and dried cranberry pilaf with roasted Brussels sprouts

* Dinner – vegetable bean soup with whole wheat pasta garlic, carrots, asparagus, and northern white beans, or brown rice and stir-fried carrots, cabbage and peas

* Snacks – veggie sticks with hummus or bean dip, yogurt with fresh pineapple, pears and whole grain crackers

Feel free to add a few twists to make the menu your own, but basically you want to include nutrient dense, high fiber, low dairy options but keep it relatively simple and consistent when trying to heal chronic constipation. Give your digestive system a little care and nourishment so it can nourish you.
