Gentle Ways To Overcome Depression Naturally


Count Your Blessings

One of the best ways to combat feelings of gloom and doom is to recognize all of the positive things in your life. Studies show that when we concentrate on things to be thankful for rather than what is lacking in our lives, we feel more connected and happy.

Find a time of day when you can stop and express gratitude for the things that are in your life. Take five minutes to list all of the things you are thankful for in that moment. Write down why these things are important and think about how to cultivate more of this in your life.

Appreciating even little things like sunshine or a warm cup of tea can go a long way to beat the blues.


Confide in a Friend

One of the biggest causes of depression is feeling disconnected from those around us. The stresses of everyday life can really get in the way of cultivating positive relationships and recognizing the emotional support that is there for us.

Everyone wants to feel like they’re not alone in the world and that someone else can relate to what they’re going through. Make a point to go for coffee with a trusted friend on a regular basis, not just if you’re feeling depressed. Chances are, if you feel bad, you won’t want to be around anyone, but if you meet with a friend consistently, it will keep those negative feelings at bay.


The most important thing in dealing with symptoms of depression is to be consistent and notice even the little changes. Once you find a small amount of progress and begin to feel like your old self again, it will be easier and easier to make these changes part of your everyday lifestyle.
