Natural Healing Remedies For Hot Flashes

Having hot flashes is something that every woman of a certain age can relate to, and one of the most difficult to remedy.

It is likely that at some point during menopause, you will feel hot, flushed, sweaty, and generally burnt out, desperate for a solution other than sticking your head in the freezer.

Modern medicine tends to look at menopause as a disease, and the symptoms that accompany it are something you just have to suffer through. When my female clients are experiencing hot flashes and other related symptoms, I want them to understand that menopause is a time to check in with themselves and re-evaluate their self care plans.

Symptoms like hot flashes are not a necessary part of menopause. Their intensity and frequency are directly related to how well you have been taking care of yourself for the last, oh, let’s say forty or fifty years. Now is the time to make the adjustments that your body needs, so that you can live the next forty to fifty in relatively good health.

If you have been busy with a career, family, relationship and the demands of having it all, you will almost certainly suffer from hot flashes and other physical and emotional symptoms as your body changes during menopause. It’s your body’s way of saying, “Stop running on empty and fill up your own tank for once.” Seriously.

Lifestyle

When your hormones are out of whack due to emotional or physical stress, symptoms like hot flashes are your body’s way of telling you that something is off. You need to allow time for your body to adjust to a new way of working, and respect its request that you take care of yourself.

* Breathing exercises – inhale deeply through the nose for a count of four and exhale completely for a count of four; excellent for keeping hormones balanced

* Sleep – consistent sleep is essential; lights out by 10pm and rise by 7am

* Soothing bathadd Epsom salts or essential oils and let your stress wash away

* Cooling foods – eat more juicy fruits and decrease spicy foods

* Avoid alcohol – your body creates excessive heat when processing alcohol

* Estrogen replacement – try a wild yam progesterone cream

* Dietary restrictions – eliminate dairy, sugar, meat, and white flour to reduce symptoms

I know it can be difficult to change a lifetime of thinking that the more you do for others, the better you will feel. While this is great for everyone else in your life, it will leave you depleted, burned out and unbalanced. Your body deserves extra care during menopause, and so do you.
