Natural Home Remedies For Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy

The Tough Get Going

Even though you are feeling a little uncomfortable, movement is an excellent remedy for reducing the occurrence of this issue during your pregnancy. Your body needs to move in order to circulate fluids and keep you regular, as constipation and hemorrhoids often go hand in hand. Making exercise a regular part of your routine can reduce constipation and keep the blood flowing more freely.

* Pounding pavement – set a goal to walk one mile each day

* Protect yourself – bend your knees and lift with the legs, not the back

* Encourage movement – Don’t sit or stand for long stretches at a time, especially on the commode as blood will collect in the delicate tissues

* Exercise control – practice Kegel exercises to strengthen and tone entire pelvis

The Going Gets Roughage

You may have noticed that your dietary needs have changed wildly since getting pregnant. Your body needs more nutrients, fluids and also fiber. Consuming more water and roughage will keep your colon functioning properly, and less constipation can mean less hemorrhoids.

* Drink water – fill a 32oz water container and refill once during the day; helps with constipation and water retention.

* Fiber upwheat bran, apples, beets, beans, nuts, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, seed, dried fruits, alfalfa, blackstrap molasses

* Psyllium huskadd a spoonful to a glass of water once or twice per day as needed

* Flaxseed oil – take as a supplement or sprinkle over salads and vegetables

If you are going to use an over the counter pain killer, choose an acetaminophen product rather than ibuprofen or aspirin as they can encourage bleeding. Also, don’t be a martyr and try to grin and bear it. Sit on soft furniture or use a donut-shaped pillow to ease the pressure.

Hemorrhoids due to pregnancy usually clear up after labor, so don’t worry too much. Remember to relax and know that everything will work out, especially if you give yourself some extra care, so you’ll be ready to offer care to someone else who comes along.
