Passing Kidney Stones Naturally With Home Remedies

Kidney stones are a common affliction. The pain caused by kidney stones is considered by experts to be among the three worst pains which people experience.

Often, kidney stones are recurrent. Fortunately, some simple home remedies and natural treatments may prevent their formation and make passing kidney stones easier.

Cranberries

Most people have heard that drinking cranberry juice can help prevent and rid the body of urinary tract infections. Did you know that cranberries and their juice help to prevent kidney stone formation too?

Most kidney stones are made of calcium. Cranberries prevent the formation of calcium based stones. If stones are made of other compounds, such as uric acid, cranberries are not as useful. If you have passed a kidney stone previously, check with your health care provider if a stone sample was sent for analysis. Your health care provider will be able to tell you if your stones are calcium based. If they are, drink pure unsweetened cranberry juice regularly.

If you do not like cranberry juice, you may purchase cranberry tablets at health food stores and pharmacies. Do not drink cranberry juice which has been sweetened with sugar substitutes. Sugar substitutes may increase the risk of urinary tract infections. They should be avoided completely.

Even if your kidney stones are not made of calcium, drinking cranberry juice to rid the body of kidney stones is still a good idea. Drinking lots of fluids, such as water or cranberry juice, flushes the stones and gravel out of the body quickly.

Passing kidney stones may cause abrasions and scratches within the urinary tract. Cranberry juice has antibacterial actions which prevent bacteria from clinging to the injured tissues of the urinary tract. The bacteria cannot attach to the injured tissues, nor can they grow and multiply there. Instead, bacteria are simply urinated out of the body.

Cranberry juice is acidic in nature. It makes the urine a bit more acidic as well. Bacteria do not thrive as well in urine which is acidic; hence, the chance of a secondary urinary tract infection is reduced.

Corn Silk

The next time that you peel an ear of corn, don’t throw away the corn silk. Store the corn silk in the freezer. If you have fresh or frozen silk, place a tablespoonful or more in a cup. Fill the cup with boiling water. Let it sit with a cover on for twenty minutes. Compost the corn silk and drink the pale colored tea. It tastes a bit like corn on the cob. The pale colored silk is the most valuable.
