Why Flat Feet Can Cause Body Aches And Pains

The Solution for Flat Feet

Surgery for flat foot is usually out of the question unless there are other associated conditions. The simplest solution is arch supports for the feet. These may also be called orthotics.

Arch supports come in a wide variety of options. Depending on how long you’ve had flat feet, you may also have developed the start of other conditions. Are your feet tired at the end of the day? Do you have pain on the bottom of your feet, in the ball of your foot, or in your heel?

If so, you may need more than a simple arch support. Getting an orthotic that also includes heel support, foot alignment design, ball of the foot support, and other features can make a difference almost immediately in the pain and fatigue in your feet that travels upward to the rest of your body.

Here’s information to help you understand the purpose of each of those components:

Heel support – A deep heel cup supports your heel to keep it properly aligned as you walk. This prevents other foot conditions from occurring.

Heel lift – Good for cases of Achilles tendonitis or short leg syndrome.

Metatarsal pad – This is a rounded pad that covers the ball of your feet, and the metatarsal arch that is located there. When this arch falls, the nerves located between the metatarsal bones in that area become irritated, causing pain with every step and especially when you wear high heels.

Arch support – When you have flat feet, any arch support won’t do. You’ll need an arch support made specifically for those who have flat feet. The increase in height is ergonomically determined. By raising your arch into the position where it should be, you give yourself a lift physically that affects your entire body.

3/4 length – Orthotics may be made full length or 3/4 length or may be just an arch support by themselves. The 3/4 length allows more wiggle room in the toes.

There are many different brands of orthotics and arch supports on the market that can fulfill your needs. One website highly recommended is www.TheInsoleStore.com

You can also do foot exercises to strengthen your arches. For example, you could walk in sand on the beach when barefoot, which helps strengthen the feet muscles.
