Herbs for migraine headaches

Migraine headaches are very hard to treat and can often cause serious symptoms like nausea. There are, however, great herbs for headaches that can help relieve the symptoms of migraine and help you to recover quickly. Try the following herbs to reduce the symptoms of migraine:

* Butterbur – a 2012 Natural News article says that butterbur is a great herb in preventing and removing migraines. It has been shown in clinical trials to help significantly in lowering the number of migraine attacks.

* Feverfew – this is another useful herb for migraines. A 2001 study done at Yale University found that feverfew contains a chemical called parthenolide, which is excellent at reducing inflammation in the body. It can also help reduce the feeling of nausea.


Mother Earth News recommends the following herbal treatment for relieving migraine headaches:

* 1/2 oz each of dried rosemary, meadowsweet, feverfew and peppermint mixed together with 1 cup + 2 tablespoons of white vinegar.

* Place this mixture in a jar and place it at a sunny spot for 2 weeks. Afterwards, strain and bottle the mixture into a dark bottle and seal.

* When you get migraine, take some of the mixture and soak a fennel cloth in it. Apply this cloth onto your forehead for relief.


Herbs for headaches caused by allergies

Often, colds or allergies can cause you to experience headaches. If you are experiencing headaches because of a cold or allergy causing blockages in your sinuses, try the following herbs for headaches to relieve the symptoms:

Ginger – this is an excellent choice for an herb for headache relief because of its anti-inflammatory qualities and its ability to prevent mucus from building up in your respiratory tract. It can also help reduce irritation in your body. A 2010 Livestrong article recommends that you should drink some ginger tea or take a bath with some added ginger extracts to help relieve your headache.

Eucalyptus – another useful herb to help open up blocked sinuses is eucalyptus. Have it in tea form or inhale the oil with some boiling water.
